Jobs and Photos

We are looking for an experienced parts interpreter with multi- franchise or general retail experience to drive our research and take our catalogue to the next level. See the full details here.

and one for everyone else ... we want a lot more photo content on Parts All Over.
Photos help people instantly confirm that the part is the one they are looking for. We are working with a number of people to make it better. But you can also help!
On any part detail page without an image there is now a button to "Add a Photo". If you have a photo from the past or can snap something you have laying around, please share it. All photos are checked and optimised before being published so you won't see it straight away.
Even photos of packs help people understand more about what the words mean.
And where you are listing something for sale, photo should always be added. Check out the listing for alloys without a photo - would you buy without seeing what they looked like?

FAQ's Quickest way to add Parts and Cars, Logging In

Some FAQs on the new PartsAllOver release

Can't find you car or a specific part?
The quickest way to add something to PartsAllOver is to Sell it. We are giving priority to adding any part someone wants to sell. That includes linking it to the vehicle(s) it fits, so of course they will start to show in your search options as well.
The PartsAllOver database is over a million parts and 7000 odd vehicles and we have a new version in preparation with over two million parts. To be visible and useful to you, we need to link parts with vehicles and cross reference them to equivalent parts from aftermarket or performance manufacturers. If you want to sell a part Free, enter the listing, we will verify it, link it and publish. Look out for our sixty second Sell It Free Video next week.

PartsAllOver the prototype Knowing Network

PartsAllOver is what we think of as a third generation shopping experience. The first was classifieds, auctions and e-commerce shopping carts. The second was comparison shopping sites. The Third is knowledge driven sites.

The idea is simple. Gather all related information to a buying decision. Present it in a way that allows you as a buyer to prioritize it easily to match your needs. Get a shortlist that lets you see and act on the best options immediately.

With the auto aftermarket, PartsAllOver is collecting and sharing the knowledge that:
  • Lets you see all the different parts or accessories that fit your car
  • Who makes them and what they like to tell you about their version
  • What others think about them
  • Where to buy them locally and who is selling them online
  • What the best new and used prices are
  • How to fit and troubleshoot them
  • Lets you share anything you discover or know about them (fact or opinion) so others can benefit in future
We are only a few very short steps into a very long journey with this. The next release coming soon takes us two big steps further.

PS: If you are interested in the theory at all check out more of the background at KnowingNetworks

Parts All Over update

Its been a long time coming, far longer than we planned, but the next version of PartsAllOver is finally nearing completion.

When we rolled out our early prototype site, our plan was to have a full product in the market within four months and the first interim release in two. The economy had other ideas and dealing with potential investors has been a bit like a school room in an earthquake; first rumble and every one disappeared under their desks in a fraction of a second and they are staying there until this is all over.

While our original plan had a full marketplace for both commercial and private sellers, our release in the next week or two will now be focused just on the car enthusiast community.

We are introducing two key features:
  • Buy and Sell parts and accessories, Free of any fees.
  • A full social networking system so you can chat to other enthusiasts, learn or share what you know and show off your pride and joy.
Both are integrated using the same user name and password. We think Free is right approach for the times so we can be as useful to you, as quickly as we can.

Listing something is also as easy as we can make it.
  • Tell us the manufacturer
  • The part number
  • How much you want.
We will list it for sale when a buyer is looking at a vehicle that uses that part. We've got something like 2 million parts in our database but if it is not there, just tell us the vehicles it fits and we will link it and make it visible. It won't be instant but hopefully we can do it within a few hours.

More news as soon as we have some definite release information

cheers
Brian
